Abstract
AI can build an app in minutes. Give it a prompt, and you get a frontend, backend, and database... all wired together. Pretty impressive. But would you deploy that in a real enterprise? Probably not. Because when it matters, we still care about security, performance, data integrity, and maintainability. And that is exactly where Oracle APEX and the Oracle Database shine. In this session, I will show how AI is changing the way we build with APEX, and how our role as developers is evolving with it. We are no longer just creating pages and writing code. We become designers, orchestrators, and validators of what AI produces. Using a World Cup prediction app as a running example, I will go from idea to a working application with AI in the loop. From data model, to PL/SQL API, to a full APEX app. You will see how AI agents can accelerate development, and where human expertise still makes the difference. This is not about replacing developers. It is about becoming a 10x developer with AI.

- Search, Search, SearchPDF · 12 MB
Abstract
In 2023, I gave a presentation on how to add search functionalities to your Oracle APEX apps. We covered basic searches with SQL and Oracle Text, powered by the native APEX Search configurations. This presentation will take it to the next level by showing how to use the Ubiquitous Database Search that comes with Oracle Database 23c and how to do vector searches. Taking a picture and asking to search your database for a similar picture is not from the past anymore; it’s here today! And searching multiple data sources became so much easier in 2024.
- OData REST Source Integration Made EasyPDF · 6 MB
Abstract
The Open Data Protocol defines a set of best practices for building and consuming RESTful APIs. In APEX 23.2, the OData Connector has now been integrated as a native component within APEX, allowing developers to incorporate data from REST services that adhere to the OData protocol without the need to install any plug-ins. I will explain why using the OData standard is beneficial and show how to integrate the OData Entry Points For Office 365 like Email, Calendar, Sharepoint, and OneDrive. I will also show some tools that helped me use the OData query language through Visual Studio Code.
- Merge MadnessPDF · 15 MB
Abstract
Have you ever accidentally overwritten another developer's changes while developing in the same Oracle APEX application? Remember the pain of having to add the changes back in? Well, with the addition of working copies in APEX 23.2, those (not-so) fond memories are a thing of the past! In this session, we explore the benefits of using working copies in APEX development and how working copies allow developers to work on the same application simultaneously without interfering with each other's work, allowing for easy collaboration. We'll show how working copies pave the way for easy patching of live versions of your applications. And to make sure we all understand what's going on, we'll also dig into what's going on behind the scenes to make the magic happen. Let the merging begin!

I will share with you what we have never shared: how we build professional Oracle APEX plug-ins at plug-ins-pro.com. After this session, you will understand what it takes to build a great APEX plug-in. You can follow the same standards we use, and I will give a few examples of different plug-ins and the framework we use to get started. This session is not to miss if you plan to build custom APEX plug-ins or want a clearer view of what it takes to build awesome plug-ins.

Abstract
I like to be as efficient as possible during my development, so when I saw APEX 20.2 comes with a new Monaco Editor, I investigated what this brings to my speed of development! Team this up with the embedded code utility of APEX 20.2 and SQL Developer Web and I find myself to be 50% more efficient at coding apps. I will share with you all the tips I've found, so you gain productivity too. ** From time to time people tell me, “Oh, I didn’t know you could do it this way” when they look at how I code. I don’t want to use any plug-in or other tools, just plain Oracle APEX, SQL Developer Web/ORDS, and Visual Studio Code. I will mostly demo, but will have slides as reference for the audience to take home. - Having multiple tabs open (Builder/SQL Workshop/Viewer) - Where to click in the editor (e.g. condition quick pick) - Shortcuts with the Monaco Editor - Quick search - Right-click in the APEX editor to quickly create buttons, DA, actions, ... - Quickly create ORDS web services and how to see the code behind it - Use of the Advisor to easily find errors/review - Review code with the built-in code utility - Use of PL/SQL: packages and naming conventions - PL/SQL: quick compilation - Quickly lookup Oracle errors - Use of Visual Studio Code

- Bring the Light into Your Always FREE Autonomous CloudPDF · 14 MB
Abstract
At Oracle Open World 2019, the always FREE Autonomous Cloud was announced. Shortly after that, I did a popular series of blog posts. This presentation will build further upon on this series. While the blog posts explain how to set things up, in this presentation I want to give tips and tricks for using the cloud, such as how to move your apps to and from the cloud, how to use advanced compression and how to measure performance and up-time. After this presentation, the attendees have all the info they need to be successful in running their applications in the Always FREE Autonomous Cloud.
- Print and Export Data in the Format You Want with AOPPDF · 7 MB
Abstract
You have all your data somewhere, but now you want to generate PowerPoints, Excel files, HTML, PDFs and much more in the format you've defined. This session will show exactly how you export your data in a format (template) you've defined in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, PDF, and HTML by using the innovative APEX Office Print (AOP) product. AOP can be integrated from any technology, but is most known to be used with PL/SQL and Oracle APEX.
- Building Automations with APEXPDF · 8 MB
Abstract
We will dive into one of the new features of APEX 20.2 I'm most excited about: Automations. I will make sure you understand what automations are and how they are useful in your own projects. Nothing is better than seeing things live, so I plan to do many live demos on how to create and monitor automations. Auto-approving specific requests and sending email alerts will no longer be a secret after this session :) And for the people who like to write code, we will step outside of the wizards and APEX Builder and look at the PL/SQL API for automations. ** I believe Automations can help many people. Showing this new built-in way of scheduling in APEX 20.2 might trigger people to start using it. Flow of presentation: - start with some examples and how you would do these examples pre-automations (using dbms_scheduler), pin-point the pain (but also flexibility) - next show how to do them with APEX 20.2 automations - show the PL/SQL API and when and how to use that (e.g. to execute, reschedule) - discuss the limitations of Automations (e.g. no API to create automations, no visualizations, no end-user ability to create them) - I plan to do research how to visualize automations, so depending if I can pull this off, I will show ways to make automations more visual

- Can You Do That with APEX? Building Not So Straightforward PagesPDF · 20 MB
Abstract
My philosophy is you want to stay as close as possible to standard APEX components. But sometimes from an end-user perspective, it would make a lot more sense and be more user-friendly if the page looks a bit different. In this session, I will demonstrate a few examples of custom pages and how you can create something yourself. We will see the use of a PL/SQL Region, APEX items, AJAX Callback (Process), dynamic actions, some JavaScript and CSS. Still, we try to stay as close as possible to APEX, so it's easy to upgrade, but it will be totally different user experience and not just a report with a form.

Abstract
How we develop with Oracle Application Express evolved over time. We now need to take care of the mobile aspect, are in the Low code decennia, need to optimize our workflow as much as possible... In 2017 I did a series of blog posts how I was building the mtable.online game in Oracle Application Express (APEX) and those posts I put in this presentation. In this presentation I want to take you on the journey how you can (or should?) develop APEX apps today. We will cover QuickSql, Blueprint, APIs and other tips and tricks that can help you building modern applications.

Abstract
Some things I always seem to look up; for example how to deal with shuttles, which API call to use, syntax of a link, some JavaScript and CSS snippets etc. This presentation is a collection of the most-used syntax, how-to's and tips and tricks while developing with Oracle Application Express (APEX). Just like in the old days when I was still studying and creating my own cheat sheet for math, I tried to do the same for APEX. Many of the items I'll show in real demo style so you see exactly what is meant.
