Privacy

The short version: I store as little as I can, I only use it for what you gave it for, and I never sell or give your data away.

This is the personal site of Dimitri Gielis, Leuven, Belgium. I’m responsible for the data described here. Questions or requests: dimitri@dgielis.com. Last updated October 2026.

Comments

When you leave a comment I store your name, your comment, the date and, if you give it, your email address.

Comments are kept until you ask me to remove them or I delete them. Comments from my old blogs on Blogspot (2006–2022) and Hashnode were copied here with the name and text that were public there. If one of them is yours and you’d like it gone or changed, email me.

Newsletter

If you subscribe, your email address is stored by Kit, the service that sends the newsletter. I use it only to send you the newsletter. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops the emails straight away.

Visitor statistics

I use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see which pages are read and where visitors come from (for example, a link on LinkedIn). It uses no cookies and doesn’t track you across sites or build a profile of you. It records the page, the referring site, your browser type and your country.

Hosting

The site runs on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes your IP address to deliver pages and to protect the site from attacks.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies. If you use the light/dark switch, your choice is remembered in your own browser (local storage); it never leaves your device.

Who else gets your data

Nobody, apart from the two services that run things for me: Cloudflare (hosting, comments, statistics) and Kit (newsletter). I don’t sell, rent or share your data with anyone else, and I don’t use it for advertising. Fonts and images are served from this site; nothing loads from Google, Facebook or other trackers.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete the data I have about you, or object to how I use it. Email dimitri@dgielis.com and I’ll take care of it. If you think I handled your data wrongly, you can also complain to the Belgian Data Protection Authority (dataprotectionauthority.be).
