Welcome to the APEX World Cup 2006 application (v2)
---------------------------------------------------

*** About this application ***

It all started at the end of May...

I received an Excel file to fill in the score of the World Cup 2006 matches.
As I'm completely Oracle minded, I wanted to create this same Excel file with the Oracle tool I like most: APEX (Application Express).
So after a couple of days the application was finished. I thought it a nice idea to share it with the world,
so I posted it on my blog and told in the APEX forum what I had done.
I got a lot of reactions, which I really enjoyed. The idea came to improve the application and show more of the APEX potential.
I started by making the application multi-lingual: the countries were translated into "nl", "fr", "en" and "de".
Then I received an email of Robert Pang: he sent me the translations into Chinese and Japanese! Wonderful!
Some other people asked me if "betting" was also possible and if I had used WC 2006 webservices...
Next to that, Jes (John Scott) and I found it a good idea to use this little application as publicity for APEX.
This is how a little application grew bigger ;-)
You can put your comment, questions and remarks here.
I would like to thank John Scott (shellprompt.net) for the hosting and Kristel Geukens (gg-design.be) for the graphics and lay-out.

Enjoy this application,
Dimitri Gielis

Definition of Each file
-----------------------
  readme.txt - This file
/sql/wc2006_ddl.sql - SQL Script used to create the datbase objects
/sql/wc2006_app.sql - APEX Application Export file
/sql/wc2006_img.sql - APEX Image Export file
/sql/wc2006_theme_opal.sql - APEX Theme Export file
/flag/* - all flags of countries in jpg format
/image/* - all images except the flags
/data/* - all data (countries, matches, ... I didn't include users and bet data)

Order of Execution
------------------
0) I suppose you have a APEX workspace
1) Run /sql/wc2006_ddl.sql as a script in the SQL Workshop
2) Import and Run /sql/wc2006_app.sql
2b-c) Optional to run the other scripts (image and theme export)
3) Import the data (xml) via APEX

Paths in which to Install Images
--------------------------------
Images are stored in the blob columns in wc_flag.
Some images are moved from a blob column to the filesystem to gain some caching.
Copy the images in /image/ to your image virtual path /i/ (?)

Post-Installation Steps
-----------------------
Register a new user...
To have an admin user, you should create a user and manually update that user as follows:
  update wc_user set admin_status=0 where user_id=659;
When you login as admin you've an other menu than as a normal user.

Let me know how it went ;-)
You're free to adapt it... I hope you sent me also the improved version.
If you'll use it in a production environment, I hope I get some money too!
